Fall Spice Playdough

There's something about these cooler days that instantly make me want the tastes and smells of fall food: cinnamon, nutmeg, all sorts of delicious spices . . . sometimes I don't even have to eat them to fulfill the craving, just smelling them is enough. 


Little Brother and I put together this delicious smelling playdough the other day and both of us couldn't stop smelling it! 
Although I know there are a lot of no cook playdough recipes out there, I'm still a fan of the consistency of a cooked playdough.

The Ingredients
1 cup flour
1/2 cup salt
2 teaspoons cream of tartar
2 teaspoons cinnamon
1 tsp nutmeg
1/2 tsp ground cloves
1/2 tsp cardamom 
1 cup water
2 Tablespoons oil
1/2 teaspoon vanilla

** We didn't add in any food coloring for this playdough, we let the spices themselves color the dough.**

Directions
1. Combine the dry ingredients in a large pot and mix with a whisk. Then add the wet ingredients and stir with a large spoon. 
2. Cook over low heat, stirring constantly until a ball forms. As soon as the ball forms enough to begin to pull away from the sides of the pot, remove the pot from the heat. 
3. Knead the ball of dough gently on a smooth surface for a few minutes. Set aside and let cool. 
4. Store in a covered container or plastic bag.


Our playdough smelled so good we couldn't even let it cool all the way! I put out a few fall shaped cookie cutters and a small rolling pin. Little Brother set to work making pretend cookies for both of us. 

The best part of our cooked playdough recipes is as long as they are stored in a sealed container they seem to last a really long time. This of course means we'll be able to enjoy this batch for quite a while to come!
